Friend from the Amazon

You travelled down the river blind

And deaf.

Compulsively seeing, hearing, categorising every minute thing

Grasping with my senses and mind

For paper security in self-obliteration

For an identity that won’t jar so loud

That it shatters the glass in people’s windows

Remembering perhaps that my life was in danger

Once

For showing who i am

With fear

Trying to control the future

I held on to the shore.

Until i understood that my life is in danger.

And then, until i understood that this life is not only mine. I have no right to throw it away, or hold on to it.

.

You awakened in me

The desire to be

For a few moments

Fluidly

In my skin

Touching things as they are given

.

*for someone who literally travelled down the river blindfolded. 🙂
